Colin Swaden GIFireE
Fire Engineering Manager |
|
|
| |
|
Colin is responsible for the management of our team of fire engineers and is the lead engineer on many projects.
His work includes providing advice to Architects and Design Teams from building concept through each stage of design and for the life of a building. |
|
Background
Colin has a Fire Service background where he was widely regarded as one of the foremost authorities on fire safety.
He worked through the ranks and specialist roles to become the Senior Technical Fire Safety Officer in his brigade.
He was responsible for the development and implementation of policies and procedures to meet the evolving legislative requirements of the last decade.
Work involved the development of policies and procedures to support the implementation of the Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations 1997 and subsequently the introduction of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (RRO), representing Kent and the South East Region.
He worked on a number of Regional and National groups and committees on behalf of the Chief Fire Officers Association (CFOA) representing Kent and the South East region.
Exceptional knowledge was gained during the development of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 – the new legislation that has had a significant effect on fire safety design and management.
- Chair of the South East region CFOA. A task and finish group developing enforcement policies and procedures to support the Order.
- National CFOA representative on the enforcement aspects of the Order.
- Member of the committee that developed the initial guidance document to support the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order that formed the basis of the current suite of public guidance to support the legislation.
Experience
As well as being a fire engineer with considerable general experience, he has developed a unique knowledge and expertise in two particular areas:
Schools and Academies

As a lecturer on the new BB100 Fire Safety Guide during its development phase, as well as now, Colin knows this complex guidance inside-out, and is in high demand to provide guidance on schools and academies under the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) initiative.
Nightclubs

Having been involved in the fire safety design and management of over 100 Nightclubs, he is recognised in the industry as something of an expert. As the fire safety consultants to NOCTIS, ‘The Voice of the Night-time Economy’ as well as Luminar plc, the largest operator, and others, we are probably the leading consultants in this area.
“Impact Fire advises us on all aspects of fire safety design and management.

As an integral part of our team, they liaise directly with architects to ensure that designs are right for us, safe, and without unnecessary costs. Statutory approvals are obtained first time, without abortive work.

The service they provide is first class, and I am happy to endorse them.”
